How long have you been with SwingShift Nurses?

I have been with SwingShift for 7 years.

What are the benefits to agency nursing and why do you choose SwingShift?

Flexibility with shifts and work places.

What made you want to specialise in mental health nursing?

I have a passion to help the vulnerable, sick, and frail to start with, and I am naturally very empathetic and humble. I also wanted to understand mental health due to its increased negative impact in our community, such as the increased rate in suicides, and the general loss of purpose/quality in life. I am determined to help, educate, and support as many people with mental illness as much as I can.

What’s the most rewarding part of your job?

To see a patient adhering to treatment and eventually getting back to work and being able to look after themselves. Or seeing a child reunite peacefully with family without any more aggression or abuse issues.

What advice would you give an aspiring mental health nurse?

To be very understanding, empathetic, and respectful towards the people we look after, and to be a genuine advocate for their patients, such that patients can feel safe around them and easily be able to build trust. This will help in knowing how best to help/assist them.

If you had to sum up working with SwingShift Nurses, what would you say?

SwingShift team members are very polite, friendly and kind to us, and are always working hard to get shifts for us even at a short notice of wanting to work. They are very friendly, pay our salaries on time, and remind us to send in our time-sheets. It is the best place to be.
